Here is the reason I stopped listening to the Danny Bonaduce morning show....

So this might sound crazy and almost child like but here is my story (and I'm sticking to it). I have listened to the Danny Bonaduce show since it started. I have been very loyal to the show. It is Danny, Sarah, Mike, Will, Gibbins and Victoria. Then one day Will was just gone. His Facebook page says he 'has the flu and will return asap'.

That was in the early part of October.

Now I understand that this is radio. People come and go. They (Danny and or/KZOK) owe us (the devoted advertising listening listeners) nothing. But come on. He was a major part of the show.

Maybe I just being a baby. Haha.

Everyone have a Very Merry Christmas!

I think your headline should read, 'Why I stopped Listening to Radio'. Radio is a dying media form and unfortunately, as a GenXer who grew up on radio, there is nothing compelling to listen to anymore (NPR has more worthwhile topics, which is just go's to show that radio is BORING). Bob rivers and crew were the last real radio team (sorry Danny, I've tried out your show...it's just awful).

Well the only time I listen (listened) to any radio was KZOK in the morning. That is it. It is my iPod in the car now 100% of the time. The main reason is advertising. I can't listen to advertising anymore. I can't listen to Don from Ron & Don SCREAMING at me about hair replacement or mortgages. Maybe I just the angry old man now screaming "you kids stay off my lawn". But in this case it is advertising. I can't do it. I'm spoiled from other technology.

For TV I use Netflix. No advertising. Movies? I download them on my computer and stream them to my Apple TV. No advertising. And again, if I want music it is my iPod. No advertising.

I grew up with KJR, KTAC, T-Man and of course KXRX. Radio was FUN. It sucks now.

I agree with you. However, I don't think you should completely give up on morning radio before you hear what "Generation Y" has in store. Obviously I would not be saying that having a morning radio show one day was not my goal, and I believe it would be an improvement on many of the morning shows that currently exist.

As for the topic of Danny, however, I agree. I used to like his show, but its difficult to listen every day. I know that a morning show needs to follow a schedule, but other shows (like Fitz in the Morning) seem to be so much better at keeping the show interesting and entertaining. For this reason, I will tune into The Danny Bonnaduce show once in a while, but not be a regular listener as I always know what the segments are going to be like (with the exclusion of "Like Coach", which I love). As for Wil, I would be prefer that KZOK told us the truth. If you look at the KZOK facebook page, many people have inquired about Wil, and the the response has been anything but a viable answer.

I think that you should find another career path. Gen Y and younger doesn't even want to bother and/or know what a radio is. To them it's old fashioned.

Couldn't agree more. I listen to MP3's now at home and in the car. KOMO for traffic, KUOW and KPLU for talk. As to R&D on KIRO-FM, I think they scream because they know their audience is slowly going away. (Now, all you experts out there try to convince me and the "youngin's" that radio has a bright future...it doesn't and you're only foolin' yourselves.) As to movies, I stream from Amazon...works great. Yeah, growing up it was, KNBQ, KXRX, KUBE (Charlie and Ty era), KISW and KPLZ (CHR era).

KMCQ was doing great on they're 100,1 song weekend a couple weekends ago. Had some lost hits in that playlist that I remembered from when I was kid.

That could be. Have you ever considered that maybe whoever you're talking about does have some illness or personal matter that has kept them from work? Radio people are just that...people too. Not everything is a conspiracy. That and even radio people need their privacy when it comes to illness or matters of a personal nature.

Some things never change around these parts, the same comments pop up about how radio is on death's door because of their individual tastes.

If you try, you'll find something to listen to on the radio. Not to mention, there is really no indication of radio becoming obsolete anytime soon. I think you would certainly agree that a blowtorch Class C radio station should not be programmed with a lackluster format (hence why there is not a "97.3 Radio Disney!" in Seattle).

have you ever thought to send the show an email asking them about the talent you are missing? me thinks you'd probably get a reasonable answer.

It's much better to spout off here, speculate, and let the comments quickly evolve to the 134,882nd "radio sucks" thread rather than get an actual answer.

What does your comment have to do with anything in this thread? Radio Disney on a Class C radio station? Huh? If Disney had the interest of buying or building a Class C radio station in the Seattle area and you don't like Radio Disney, you have the option of not listening to it. I think that was your point. I don't want come off as a jerk or tell you what to do, but sometimes it's better to hold your comments if they don't bring something to the party.

This happens because it's true. Just keep putting your head in the sand and think the best years are ahead...they're not...you will lose in the end.

I have never said that radio's best years are ahead. If you want to take the time to see what I have said about the state of radio today and its future, just do what the other regulars in this forum have done and look at my RD profile and do a search on my posts.

Let me give you a preview on what you'll find in the search: In this forum, 98% of the solutions of today's radio woes are solved by going backwards and hiring people who have been on the air 20, 30 or even 40 years ago. Overcoming technology is one of radio's biggest challenges, yet everyone here is convinced that hiring people and employing programming strategies that were common prior to the TV remote being invented is the answer. Does that make any sense to you?

Back to my earlier point. Does anyone have the stones to call Carey Curelop and ask what happened to that guy on Bonaduce's show, or is everyone going to be a keyboard badass?

If I read the original post correctly, he stopped listening so I would guess won't be calling KZOK to ask.

So literally KZOK/CBS lied to everyone? "Oh, Will has the flu and he'll be back in a few days" ends up being a few months after he, I suppose, left the station.
Too many reasons that I don't need to list why I don't listen to Seattle radio much anymore...but I still enjoy KRWM during the holidays (meaning, now) and 96.5 Jack FM at all other times. Otherwise, I avoid the other stations in the market due to that corporate-200-song-playlist.

So you jump on people who agree with you too, eh?

My comment was intended to explain a simple fact: the people who operate Seattle clusters know what they are doing, and the guy who thinks he has a better idea is usually wrong. I was merely providing an example.

Well first AQH, you're right. Good radio is not dead and guess what, it will live on....Maybe on different delivery platforms, but yes, radio in general will live on. Internet radio has proven this much, standard AM & FM only really matter if it's LOCAL. Locally sounding, locally selected.

That said, Danny Bonaduce deserves the benefit of a doubt. Radio staff come and go. But these are things you NEVER talk about over the air. I know that sounds harsh, but there are reasons why (this is why there is private security at many radio stations.) They're there to collect you and kindly escort your ass out in case any reasonable questions are asked.

Now I'm NOT saying this guy did anything wrong. At all. It might have been an upper management desicion. Who knows? It is what it is. And that's why there are better careers than radio announcing. It doesn't take much to talk on the radio (It takes a lot of ass kissing though.) But I've never been up for that and i never worked well under constant insecurity. That's why I bailed out.

Apologies, my intent wasn't to jump on you fordranger, but I was feeling some frustration because I couldn't make heads nor tails of what you were talking about, or what Radio Disney has to do with a Class C FM in Seattle. I've been doing this radio thing professionally since 1976 and wouldn't ever make the statement that any PD or group owner knows exactly what they're doing all the time. Sometimes they use research, sometimes experience, more often an educated guess. But I'm not in programming end of the business anyway, thankfully.
