New Morning DJ at WLS FM

Jack Diamond is a great talent who loves this music and the tradition of Chicago radio. I hope the people will give him a chance.

Jack did a week tryout last summer and then surfaced in San Diego where he lasted two weeks. He said the cost of living was too expensive and he couldn't afford to relocate his family. He then went back to Washington and now he resurfaces on WLS. Is the cost of living cheaper in Chicago than San Diego? He was at WRQX for 24 years and then did a short stint in Miami before his Chicago week and San Diego. Wonder if this one is a keeper?

Big day for WLS Monday. Jack Diamond starts on the FM and Steve Dahl on the AM.

Two things happened in July: John Nolan, morning show co-host at XHPRS-105.7 in Tecate/San Diego, left the station, leaving Kim Morrison to do the show solo. In Chicago, Jack Diamond, who had spent 24 years at WRQX in Washington DC, sat in as co-host with Brant Miller on WLS-FM in Chicago, leading to speculation that Diamond would take over the morning show and Miller's role would be reduced. In August, Jack Diamond surprised everyone by joining Kim Morrison on XHPRS. In the late 1980s, Diamond had worked at San Diego country station KSON. Mike Shepard was the program director. Shepard is now programming XHPRS and talked Diamond into moving to San Diego. As Mister benale noted, Diamond quit after two weeks and he's now back in Chicago. If Diamond thought the cost of living in San Diego was too high, he can be glad he didn't wind up in Los Angeles!

Assuming his family is staying in DC, it's a much shorter flight from Chicago to Washington than from San Diego.

The whole thing doesn't make sense to me. WLS-FM has very talented DJs with long time Chicago connections. Why not take one of their current talents and move him to the morning and expand some other shifts by an hour? Some of them like Murphy or Landecker have done mornings, but what do I know I'm just a listener not Jan Jeffries friend.

Consider this: WLS-FM has some very talented DJs, but the station has been dropping like a stone lately. So maybe it's time to try something new.

Rumors were flying that perhaps this frequency was about to become the home for Nash-FM in Chicago. But obviously Jan Jeffries is aware of the heritage of this station, and really wants to preserve it with this format. Jack Diamond is an experienced and talented DJ who has done mornings most of his career. Perhaps he can attract some new listeners to the station and save it from extermination.

They looked pretty stable and decent in the last listings.....Jefferies however has to bow to Corporate.....making WLS-FM a real personality classic hits/top40 station would really do well...but the PPM rules and thus the jocks cant talk and do their bits like they used to (remember Jefferies released Fred Winston blaming HIM for a drop in ratings? What a crock)

Wouldn't Jack just broadcast from a studio in his home in Wash DC..like everyone else does now in home studios. Mark from the Mark and Brian fame will be on again in Los Angeles in Feb 2015 from his home studio near Charlotte, NC ..
