It's indisputable that Twisty, the murderous clown on American Horror Story: Freak Show, is a straight-up nightmare, but he's not real. That's right, you can all rest easy because he's not real. However, terrible news: clown killers have existed. John Wayne Gacy is by far the most infamous of the clown killers, but there have been others. Given that Halloween is approaching, now is a good time to take a look back at some terrifying real American horror stories involving twisted clowns. Warning: this post contains really disturbing information.

Without reading the disturbing information, Jimmy Stewart played a killer clown in The Greatest Show On Earth, so I reckon it has been going on for a bit. Of course, he was on the run from the law and using the clown gig as his cover, rather than dressing up to commit the crime.
