Newcap's bid to decrease the average ERP at CKKO 96.3 (K96.3) in Kelowna, B.C. from 10,000 to 6,300 watts (31,000 to 14,100 watts maximum ERP) was rejected by the CRTC today. Antenna height would have been raised from 130.6 to 793 metres (EHAAT) with the transmitter being relocated to Newcap's existing site at the top of Okanagan Mountain which houses Penticton's CIGV 100.7.
The CRTC expressed concerns that CKKO would be entering the Penticton market through "the backdoor" which could have a detrimental effect financially on the existing Penticton stations.
