KPRC Turns 65

Will they be preempting NBC programming for some kind of anniversary special?

No idea

I would assume so. It'll likely take place on a Saturday night at 7, considering that KPRC usually runs specialized local programming in this slot. Last Saturday night's primetime offering was "Thelma & Louise".

KPRC is quite the quirky NBC affiliate. They preempt a lot of network stuff.

A piece of KPRC history - In 1953, KPRC was an unwitting participant in a hoax in England where some unscrupulous "inventors" were trying to sell highly sensitive super-heterodyne television sets that were capable of receiving signals from long distance without an antenna. One problem - the inventors were unaware that KLEE had changed their calls to KPRC some 3 years prior when they broadcast a picture of a KLEE test pattern.

Apparently, this super television was also capable of receiving signals in multiple formats simultaneously, NTSC, PAL, SECAM, whatever.
