Hey Guys:

Would anybody know the format history of CFMI 101.1?

This is what I have so far:

March 22, 1970 CFMI-AOR/Country Hybrid

1974 CFMI-AC

1978 CFMI-Top 40

January 1, 1983 CFMI-Adult AOR (Mellow Rock)

September 2, 1985 CFMI-EOR (Eclectic Oriented Rock)

March 1986 CFMI-New AC/New Age

August 4, 1986 CFMI AOR

If anybody knows any exact dates that would be great.

Thanks

T.J.

CFMI was never Top 40. The format wasn't allowed on FM in those days as the CRTC tried to unsuccessfully preserve it on the AM band.

Interesting you said that because in CFMI History pages from the Vancouver radio museum. They have to Top 101 from 1978 to 1982 and it looks like a Top 40 playlist to me.

In my unscientific opinion I would call it AC bordering on Hot AC. Barry Manilow, Anne Murray, Johnny Mathis, etc. aren't exactly of the Top 40 genre.

The 1982 list does look a lot like a top 40 station, but upon close inspection, there are quite a few songs that definitely were not top 40 hits....Crosby Stills and Nash did not chart on top 40 radio in Canada in 1982, neither did the Pointer Sisters, Mental As Anything, Godley and Creme or Kate and Anna McGarrige. The highest charting non hit can be found at number 48.
