WGN personality Roy Leonard dies at age 83

KeithE4

Walk of Fame Participant
He died Thursday night after being ill for some time.

Not only did he have a long-time middday show on WGN 720, but he was the entertainment critic and the host of Family Ties, after Frazier Thomas' passing, on Channel 9.

RIP, Roy. :(

Will we ever see another like him?

It can arguably said that no two of his radio shows were ever alike. In fact any given day's broadcast could be 180 degrees different than the day before....and another 180 degrees different from the day after. He had a unique ability to use his eclectic tastes as a means to keep his audiences entertained and informed for three decades. He always came across as the genuinely nice guy equally comfortable whether interviewing opera singers, Hollywood producers, authors, civic leaders, rock stars, or anyone else in between. Well done, Roy. R.I.P. with your bride, Sheila.

...Family Classics, not Family Ties. Roy had nothing to do whatsoever with the ABC sitcom...

Uhh...yeah...that. [facepalm]

I didn't even see that until now. Thanks.

Yeah it was sad news a couple of years ago, but one of the ones that I have to imagine that took his death the hardest was Nick Digilio that all got his start on WGN Radio thanks to Roy Lenoard. Years before he was a weekend or now a weeknight host on WGN Radio, Nick Digilio would often call into Roy Lenoard's show on WGN Radio to even review movies And Roy at some point decided he would be a good addition to his show.
