Finally???!!!! A Q-102??????

It's true! 2pm today 102.1 KFOX became Q-102!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe the calls... KQQQ?????

My dream come true!!!! Q-102

Q-102

It appears this new station is going to be modeled after Entercom's highly successful Hot 103-7 in Seattle.

That station's immediate success greatly surprised me. Why? Like San Francisco, there were already two CHRs. And like San Francisco, Rhythmic (Hot) AC had been tried before with rather lackluster results -- in each instance under the "Movin" brand, to boot!

Will be interesting to see if Entercom can get lightning to strike twice. It's tough to argue with the format choice.

For the new Rhythmic Hot AC at 102.1 in San Francisco, KUZX:

Website address: http://www.q102sf.com

Webcast player address: http://v6.player.abacast.net/2451 (64k AAC)

Webcast direct streaming URL: http://65.19.131.169/entercom-kuzxfmaac-64 (64k AAC higher quality)
or http://65.19.131.169/entercom-kuzxfmmp3-64 (64k mp3 lower quality)

This is the what I've seen lately where Entercom has begun using Abacast for streaming, possibly replacing StreamTheWorld.
Being as the current call letters are KUZX, I suppose they can get the "Q" from the first two letters of the calls without making a change.
KQQQ is currently in use on an AM in Pullman, WA and would be available as "KQQQ-FM" if a change was desired.

******
For the station remaining as Classic Rock at 98.5 in San Jose, KUFX:

Website address: http://www.kfox.com

Streaming for KUFX is currently available on both Abacast and StreamTheWorld.

Webcast player address: http://v6.player.abacast.net/2178 (64k AAC)
or http://player.tritonmedia.com/entercom/KUFXFM (64 k AAC)
or http://player.streamtheworld.com/liveplayer.php?CALLSIGN=KUFXFMAAC (64k AAC)

Webcast direct streaming URLs: http://65.19.131.169/entercom-kufxfmaac-64 (64k AAC higher quality)
or http://65.19.131.169/entercom-kufxfmmp3-64 (64k mp3 lower quality)
or http://provisioning.streamtheworld.com/pls/KUFXFMAAC.pls (64k AAC)
or http://4893.live.streamtheworld.com:80/KUFXFMAAC_SC (64k AAC)

If only it was Power 102, then Charles of usenet fame would get his wish :D

Entercom genius at work

Will Q102 be as successful as Entercom's past format choices like the WOLF(failure), the GAME (failure in progress) or KFOX simulcast on the former KDFC frequency (double failure when KDFC outperforms classic rock. Not to mention Entercom changes took KOIT from perennial #1 25-54 to struggling, sometimes unsuccessfully to stay in the top 10
What could go wrong with Rhythmic AC? Well with co-owned Urban AC as competition along with KISQMKKSF, KMEL & KYLD fighting for a shrinking African Americam population, it looks like the Entercom geniuses are ready to fail again

Movin' had a very different playlist (and it had a very narrow music selection, and small playlist). Q102 mixes elements of dance, mainstream rap, current CHR/Adult top 40 hits, and old school. The few stations that have rolled this format out in the past year or so have been successful. It is a well thought out format. The question is will it evolve when changes are needed. Movin' did, but it was too late.

You have to realize the Bay Area is a minority majority population. Not just blacks listen to Urban. Lots of Asians and Hispanics likes to listen to Urban music.

This is exactly what The Bay Area needs...another Rhythmic leaning radio station. We already have KYLD, KMVQ, KDON, Hot 105.7, KMEL and now Q102. I think it's time for one of these radio stations to try something else. How about Active Rock, Oldies or perhaps Adult Standards?

Active Rock…forget it. LIVE 105 isn’t doing well in the ratings and the bay area is way too ethnic in demographics.

Adult Standard or Oldies….forget it. How do you sell these format if it isn’t advertiser friendly in the demographics. Too old for the sales department.

I'm now wondering why San Francisco still can't get a Country station. I know that San Jose has two of them, but I think San Francisco is long overdue to get a Country station of its own!

As do some white males.

Well said.

I'm a white male in my late 30's and I listen. :) I don't see how all these stations can compete for a shrinking market.

While not direct competitors, I find myself bouncing from:
Now 99.7, KMEL, KYLD, Hot 105.7/100.7 and now Q102

IMHO, they can't all co-exist AND compete against online radio and iPods.

Now 99.7 and Now Q-102??? They can't use the same name!!!

More rap and 00s-10s rhythmic stuff on this station I see. I'd rather listen to KWNZ 106.3 "Pop FM" up in Lovelock/Reno which is a Rhythmic AC with loads of 80s and early-mid 90s throwbacks. Ready for the World (NOT "Oh Sheila"!) and a rarer Toni Braxton just aired last 15 minutes on KWNZ.
