Star 107.1 Set To Launch August 1st

Hampton Bays, NY (July 2014) The Pillar of Fire Radio Network announces its expansion into Long Island with Star 107.1 WLIR Hampton Bays, NY. Starting at noon on August 1, Star 107.1 (star1071fm.com) will bring uplifting music and personalities to a whole new audience of Christian music fans on Long Island. The signal will also be heard on a string of five translators located in Suffolk and Nassau counties serving a potential audience of 2.3 million radio listeners.

Star 107.1 launches with Rich Anderson in mornings, Dawn Wheeler during mid-days, Scott & Sam for the drive home, and Rick Hall for evenings. The playlist includes fan favorites like Casting Crowns, MercyMe, Third Day, Laura Story, Matthew West, the Newsboys, Chris Tomlin, Mandisa and many others. Plus Star 107.1 will include lots of listener interaction, the Live Love campaign and other seasonal promotions, concerts and events. The first event is scheduled with Michael W. Smith at Six Flags Great Adventure on September 13.

Star 99.1/Star 107.1 General Manager Scott Taylor said, "The mission of Star 107.1 is to "love, honor and serve God, our listeners, supporters and staff." Taylor adds, "Contemporary Christian music is uplifting, offers hope and reminds you of God's love. Starting August 1, Star 107.1 will be a faithful companion bringing hope, joy, encouragement and worship to Long Island radio listeners.”

Star 107.1 is a ministry of Pillar of Fire, which has been faithfully serving families for over 80 years.

Rich Anderson suckered everyone who contributed to the station in the beginning. First he promised commercial free then sold commercials. Guess he sold the station now for a nice profit. Too bad he will still be part of STAR 107.1. Prosperity doctrine at its best. Weak. Oh well. Maybe they will now play better music.

The link below has a map of the 5 translators in LI that the new Star 107.1 states they will be using.
But with Star 107.1 on the air for over an hour, the translator on 101.5 is still carrying Hope Radio, which had been on 107.1 till today. It is not clear whether Hope Radio will remain on the air via one or more translators, will soon be available only online, or will shut down.

not enough donations to keep operating

WLIX may not have been able continue w/o commercials; maybe not enough charitable donations
were made to the station and this was not forseen by management.

WLIX FM was the first station on LI playing contemporary FM songs programming

It is entirely speculative and judgmental to assume that WLIX management planned on going commerical and
then selling the station. How could anyone forsee what donations would be in advance. I give WLIX Rich Anderson
credit for being the first station on LI to play contemporary Christian songs and programming in FM format.
The prior WLIX from the 80's and 90s was AM only and WFME is not contemporary. I also give WEGB (Hamptons) credit
for being the second contemporary FM station to play contemporary christian songs and programming.

Who says the station was sold?

The station I believe is still owned by Livingstone (Rich Anderson's outfit).

I think this is just a programming and branding change but the owner remains the same.

Dawn Wheeler is leaving. How about Mary Perez?

Congratulations to Dawn Wheeler on preparing to become a mom and leaving Star 99.1.

I'd love to see them bring in an established voice like Mary Perez, who served as Music Director and Afternoon Drive Host at Christian 54 WLIX. Afterwards, she moved on to "WALK Pillow Talk" on WALK, "Mary & Marty in the Morning" at Love 96-WLVG, Magic 94.3-WMJC, and WLUX. Who would be better to replace a mom-to-be than a mom like Mary?
