KGNS-DT2 switches to ABC

Back in November 2013, after being purchased by Gray, KGNS announced that they were dropping The CW from 8.2 in favor of ABC on February 1, 2014. That date came and went. The switch finally happened on July 1.

Now, where does The CW end up on in the Laredo market? KVTV 13.2 seems like the most logical choice.

ABC is in 720p. How does that kind of set up on a subchannel work? Do they just run the network feed 24/7?

It's programmed like any other ABC affiliate, except that it doesn't have local newscasts. ABC doesn't program 24/7. During non-network hours, KGNS.2 has syndicated programming, such as Queen Latifah, Judge Mathis, Access Hollywood and Who Wants to be a Millionaire.

Some .2 and .3s operate even more like a standard affiliate. KXII in Sherman, Texas has CBS on .1, My Network on .2 and Fox on .3. Competitor KTEN in Denison, Texas/Ada, Oklahoma has NBC on .1, The CW on .2 and ABC on .3.

KXII includes it's own slate of syndicated shows on .2 and .3, and newscasts on .3. KTEN takes much of The CW Plus 24/7 feed, but has some local newscasts. Its ABC station looks, for the most part, like any other ABC affiliate, including newscasts.
