The CBC and Netflix have found themselves on opposite sides in a battle over the future of funding for Canadian content. http://www.friends.ca/news-item/12207
“Netflix tax” will not happen, says Canada’s broadcast regulator
Netflix will not have to pay fees to subsidize Canadian TV production, nor will the company have to comply with so-called “Canadian content” quotas, the head of the country’s broadcast regulator told media outlets this week. https://gigaom.com/2014/11/07/netfl...ulator/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
Pardon a dumb-question: But unless Canada decides to block Netflix.com, as China and some Middle Eastern countries block foreign web sites and web streams, it seems Canada can do nothing to Netflix? Canadians can subscribe and watch a US stream.
This all seems very short-sighted. Look what Canadian content rules did to CKLW.
