KWXY to Fm

KWXY in Palm Springs to add an fm translator in about a week at 107.3, 250 watts from Edom Hill. Also afternoon drive jock John O was let go.

Good to see it back on FM. Not as viable for a full FM signal, but will work out great on a translator. It would be great to see some of the original announcers return. What are the calls?

K297BO, It will be fed via KDES HD2. Similcasting will continue for at least 6 months; maybe much longer. Redwood Empire Stereocasters is the owner of the translator and has a deal with RR broadcasting for this. The 1340am maybe used eventually for yet another sports station in the market. 1010 and 1270 are both all sports.

The 250 watt translator on Edom Hill at nearly 700' over average terrain puts a 60 dbu from Indio to the Whitewater grade... nearly a full market signal.

Don't know what kind of response or revenue you get with KWXY-AM, but you will probably make many of the long time listeners and snowbirds happy.

Do you still use the lady with the mysterious voice for liners?

KWXY was the highest billing AM pureplay last year, with about 5% of the market billings. (The AM-AM-AM-Translator news talk station KNWZ bills more, but with most listening likely on FM).

KWXY AM does not do at all well beyond Palm Desert to the east, so the FM will add a lot of people to the coverage area.

Of course, nearly 50% of the revenue in the market goes to just four stations... two Spanish language FMs and the two CHR / Churban stations.

Looks like some kind of lease deal with Glen Barnett? Don't know the whole story. Is he programming the station?

My understanding is that when Glen sold the FM as part of the old KDES frequency moving to the IE, he retired from radio and the new owner of KWXY, R&R, moved the beautiful music format to the AM. Now R&R is leasing a translator to put the format on FM again.

Have a couple of questions

What was the name of the morning DJ? Also is he gone from KWXY? I have been under the weather for sometime and have not been listening to the radio.

The KWXY translator is finally on the air at 107.3. Coverage exceeds that of KKUU-HD2 "Crush" at 103.9 due to more hieght. It also should be known RR broadcasting purchased the entire corp. when buying KWXY-fm 98.5, Glenn Barnett Inc.

Good to see KWXY back on FM. What happened (is happening) with the old studios. Saw some pictures a few years back. What a step back into time.
