Officially announced yesterday (Tuesday), the new HearHere (H2) Radio group will be providing news-based audio content via a soon-to-launch iPhone app--with other platforms planned for next year. Also, it will start as a locally focused outlet (with "brand-new studios in the shadow of Willis Tower"), but has already mentioned other markets for possible expansion.

See more from Robert Feder (at http://www.robertfeder.com/2013/11/19/meyersons-mobile-app-personalizes-news), the original press release (at http://myemail.constantcontact.com/...Radio.html?soid=1102180030108&aid=61cP_WXd1uo), and a newer RAIN interview (at http://www.kurthanson.com/news/jukeboxing-news-h2-radio-prepares-launch).

There's no specific mention of the analogous Swell and Stitcher apps; however, H2 is supposed to be based largely on original content.

How is this different from Iheartradio/ClearChannel doing 24/7 News for their app/website?

At the very least, I believe that the 24/7 News streams aren't customizable/personalizable; H2 supposedly allows individual users to get different segments, in different orders (including the ability to rewind or skip segments). Also, going from the RAIN interview, it looks like H2 may be aiming for hyperlocal traffic reports.

This website Newsworthy audio is already doing this. Anyway These people on the new all-news radio site will just read the script that Reuters, AP, TMZ and Local Stringers provided to them.
