High school radio, streaming and TuneIn

Wow...a LOT to consider!

I have a new adult volunteer asking questions about streaming our station (WRSG) and also having our station appear on TuneIn.
I told her that, to my understanding, our station would probably never participate in streaming, unless it were high-school basketball games. Also, since we don't stream OR have a website, we wouldn't be found on TuneIn.com.

We've had this discussion before, but are there ANY high school stations out there that stream, let alone have a highly-maintained website via which program providers (and we have quite a few now, and looking to add more, contingent upon having a website) could have their shows enjoyed anytime?

Is Live365 a viable option AND used by these stations? IF you run a high school station, and do all of the above, PLEASE PM me!

89.7 WTBR-FM in Pittsfield, MA streams 24/7 with a classic rock/new rock format. Station is live (for the most part) with adult volunteers and students from 7:30am - 11pm M-F. After that, its automated with logs generated by students. Weekends are automated since the school is closed but many students and adults pre-record or voice track their shows. Website at: www.wtbrfm.com Students LOVE having the opportunity to be heard by relatives and friends outside the signal area. Our Friday night polka show gets requests from Florida.

I recently ran across WMTH-FM in Park Ridge, IL; which streams via the high school's website using Windows Media Player. They are on during school hours only Mon-Fri; you can find them online at:

http://south.maine207.org/activities/wmth/

Looked them up on Wikipedia, they have quite a history going back over 50 years. Their first student DJ was one Harry Ford; you know him better now as Harrison Ford!

We (WEEM-FM, Pendleton IN) stream 24/7, voicetrack out-of-school hours, and even have a syndicated show via Westwood One (Zach Sang). Check us out at http://www.917weem.org we also stream on TuneIn, Shoutcast, and have our own app for iOS7. 100% student controlled outside of me and my assistant.

Currently, we use MyRadioStream.com for our mp3 stream, which is required for TuneIn.

If you're in a larger market, make sure you get a PPM box from Arbitron/Neilsen because it counts 24/7 stream as part of your cume and tsl.

For more information on high school stations, including streaming see http://www.iasbonline.org and http://www.highschoolradioday.com. You can also email or call me.

We use Live365. While we're a student-run college station, the fact remains that it's probably a lot cheaper than you're thinking to go with Live365. They can handle all the licensing fees too if you want. Give 'em a call, they'll probably suit you well.
