Univision Blowing Up Two PHX Stations

According to Radio Insight, Apparently KHOT is going Classic Regional as "La Jefa" and 100.3 going younger as "El Sancho" ... No report on what 105.3 will do. Looks like "Recuerdo 106.3 and 106.5" will remain untouched. 105.9 will go from #1 to changing formats...

How would we know after several years that Piolin was the glue that was holding KHOT together. They're going from directly competing against KLNZ to pursuing KVVA's listeners. 100.3 doesn't have a decent signal north of Indian School Road and west of 19th Avenue.

I had thought Recuerdo was classic Regional already.

Recuerdo is Spanish Adult Hits and plays different genres of older music. The format for KHOT will still be male just more 90's and 2000's. Piolin was the glue. Think of 105.9 as going between Tricolor/Campesina and Jose - leaning older and 100.3 just being a jukebox to take younger shares off KLNZ and KNAI. 107.1 has a lot of strength because it comes from the SE part of the market.

No, Recuerdo is somewhat like a Jack-type format. It covers pop, ballads, softer regional and "grupera" music of the 70's, 80's, 90's and the 00's.

If that is what All Access is reporting, they have "regional Mexican" bit oversimplified. When KSCA modified its format, AA called it "classic regional" also, while it was just a more gold based blend of currents and older hits than either of the other regional stations in LA.

KHJ is classic regional.

David... KSCA is definitely a modified version that still plays currents. Clearly though, it shows how the "La Nueva" brand was all driven by Piolin. The station has fallen apart since.
