A note on "trolling"

We are seeing an uptick in trolling behavior, in particular on this forum. If you do not know what internet trolling is, the following from Wikipedia should sort you out.

In Internet slang, a troll (/ˈtroʊl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people,
1. by posting inflammatory,
2. extraneous,
3. or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a forum, chat room, or blog),
4. either accidentally or with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response
5. or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

While this sense of the word troll and its associated verb trolling are associated with Internet discourse, media attention in recent years has made such labels subjective, with trolling also used to describe intentionally provocative actions and harassment outside of an online context. For example, mass media has used troll to describe "a person who defaces Internet tribute sites with the aim of causing grief to families.

Trolling behavior is ultimately a disruption of the forums and in violation of our Terms of Service.
