CKUA 580 Edmonton going dark on or before December 12, 2013

The CRTC approved an application by the CKUA Radio Foundation to cease operations at CKUA 580 in Edmonton by December 12 2013. The prohibitive cost of upgrades to the AM transmitter was cited as the primary reason for this request.

An application by South Fraser Broadcasting to take over the facilities of 580 and establish a multilingual station in Edmonton on that frequency will be dealt with at a future date.
