Jack Ellsworth, A Radio Legend

I am sorry to announce that Jack Ellsworth passed away peacefully last night after a recent illness. He was surrounded by his family as he wished. He kept alive the great music of the golden era for many decades. His voice could be heard on Long Island radio since 1951. I always enjoyed his choice in music and the personality he was able to project through the radio to his listeners.

This is really sad news. Jack Ellsworth allowed me to hang around the station (WALK) when I was a young punk. I learned so much there. Jack hired some of the best broadcasters and ran a very professional operation. His name was known nationwide in the days before social media.

One of my most cherished items is a letter of recommendation from Mr. Ellsworth. And, it did open some doors for me back in the day. Jack Ellsworth was a treasure to Long Island Broadcasting. He will always live in my heart. God Bless Him.

Jack got Dan Ingram into the radio business. He also met and knew some of the greatest recording artists of all time. Jack wrote a book about his life about a year ago.
