The radio world gets smaller. Fewer syndicated shows and even fewer jobs. And, good luck, trying to syndicate something new.

Necessity is the mother of invention. As companies consolidate, that creates opportunities for new ventures who can fill in the gaps, and personalize services for clients. And the fact is that today, anyone can syndicate. Anyone has access to the technology, the interconnect, and the potential affiliates. The main thing you need is a great idea, and the ability to sell it. That won't change. And as far as jobs are concerned, broadcasters need to take charge of their own lives and become more entrepreneurial. The more you depend on others for your livelihood, the less control you have over what you do and how you live.

Syndicators are merging because they can. Formats are merging to cost savings to justify that. Theoretically, anyone can syndicate, but it's hard to create revenue because the big guys are controlling spot sales, for pennies on the dollar, at the expense of the affiliates. And the big two will now monopolize 24/7 programs.
