College radio stations have some DJs that are around just a few years but some who stay a lot
longer. I have been with WMWM since 1981 (graduated in 84 from Salem State "College", now
"University") continuously and started the blues show The Juke Joint in May of 1988. This
month we celebrate our 25th anniversary. Some other shows have had that much longevity including with the original host--Mai Cramer, for example...now we join that. I plan to have Ralph and Larry
from the cajun/zydeco band The Squeezebox Stompers down to play live.
Before my show, around 87, we did have a DJ named Mike Breen (not the guy in NY) do a bit of
blues on the Fri 9-mid slot, then I started Juke Joint and did it by myself for awhile then we brought in people like Pete Cahill, Sister Lisa, Skippy White, Toni Lynn Washington (the blues singer) etc.
A lot of "new releases", live performances, concert reports, and so on. Other stations have dumped their blues shows including WGBH but we keep it going...
