KCJZ Up and Running (Barely)

Not only that but they changed the original power on the CP from 5.4kW to 6kW which matches the power of KTEA, the station they will be co-locating with. Jim K should be happy as he now has someone to share the cost of leasing the tower. This was probably the only way KCJZ could reach a metro area of any significance. KTEA's signal into SLO is not strong but it can be heard as will be the case with KCJZ.

KCJZ sharing the same tower as KYPG and KTEA - will NOT save anyone money. It might just cost more cash each month. And another signal in the town will cause Mr K - some sleepless nights and some cash from his own pockets. Bring on the next FM station for the town. Give everyone a pain in the pocket book.

Another rumor has it that the move back to the Cambria AFS is only temporary and that the Adelsons are still looking for a permanent home for KCJZ. It may or may not mean a change in COL. As for KTEA, I know Jim still wants to sell it and is looking for buyers.

KCJZ has no where to move. It is pinned into Cambria. As for KTEA wanting to find a buyer -- the poor souls in Hell -- want Ice water.

Just an update: KCJZ is now Bob FM and KTEA is doing 60's-70's AC. The Adelman's ditched the big band stuff. They are diplexing both stations off the Cambria AFB site which makes sense. But if you look at their signal pattern, they're still basically broadcasting to the seals and otters. They claim SLO, but their signals barely make it into the city limit due to the terrain.

Don't know how the Adelman's plan on making money with these stations. They have a salesman who's been actively working the Central Coast. For years, Jim tried to make a go of it with KTEA but the best he could do was to turn money over and keep the station afloat. As we know, small market radio (and TV which is my racket) can be a tough sell.
