WJOB

Got a chance to listen some more. They sound better now with a better signal in the triple cities. Anyone know what the scoop is? New transmitter...different antenna...etc? They're in mono which makes sense...rim shots fare better that way as stereo needs at least 30 percent more signal. Their format sounds more in line with a mainstream hip hop station...such as Hot 97 in NYC. Processing seems better too...and they have RDS. Didn't here any liners to speak of. Are they being run by volunteers? If they are I know a few interested people that want to get some radio experience.

I noticed the stronger signal recently. Has anyone heard a legal ID on WJOB? I've yet to catch one.

The FCC still lists WJOB-FM's status as "CP OFF AIR". The station is very much on the air.

The CP was granted on August 5, 2011 for a term of 36 months. That means that the CP expired at 0300 on February 5th, 2014. Why is this station still on the air?

The FCC also lists it as a "NON-COMMERCIAL EDUC. FM" however the station is running commercials, not sponsor mentions. That point is moot if the station doesn't have an authorization to be on the air in the first place.

36 months = 3 years. The construction permit doesn't expire until August 5, 2014. That's why it is still on the air.
