A little translator news...

At one point, Clear Channel was gunning to put 5 FM translator on the IDS Center, giving CC 10 (!) FM signals and 1 AM.

Well, according to northpine.com, there will be two fewer signals. Per the website:

The FCC recently dismissed the application to move W227BF/93.3 (Shoreview) to IDS at EMF's request, and an application for K249ED/97.7 (Albertville) to move from Maple Grove to IDS was dismissed last year. Meanwhile, applications remain pending to move K260BA/99.9 (Coon Rapids) from Plymouth to IDS and to upgrade K273BH/102.5 (Fridley), which is already at IDS

CC has one at 103.5, which relays AM1130, KTCN (News-talk). If 102.5 gets its upgrade, the KTCN signal will go there and the old format of AM690 KFXN (Sports talk "The Score") will go to 103.5, relaying the 107.9 HD2 (where "The Score" has been hiding out since last August).

AM690 went to the MMTC, which has a Hmong language format.

Whew.

I doubt that the last two signals(99.9, 102.5) are ever going to get approved, so what's Clear Channel to do about the Score? Does CC move KTCN to FM? Not likely. The other FM signals are doing well. I think it's more likely the Score will remain on HD2 for sometime.

The fact that 99.9 and 102.5 are not running CC programming makes me wonder (and assume) that the upgrade was part of the deal to sell the signals to CC. No upgrade, no sale. Would it be worth CC's time to hang on to one (or both) signals with their current signals?

Leighton has been quiet about 99.9. KCML's class A signal doesn't get past the 494-694 loop, so maybe 99.9 is still a possibility.

As for KTCN moving, you're right. It won't happen. The Class C FM's are doing well. Nice problem to have. ;D

Re: A little translator news..

Well, they certainly are persistant.

According to northpine.com, EMF has another new application for W227BF (93.3) moving from Shoreview (at 10 watts) to the IDS at 99 watts. The station will relay Cities 97.

And still persistanter.... Again from northpine.com...

The Commission gave the OK to an application to move translator W225AP/92.9 (St. Paul) to the Wells Fargo Center in Minneapolis.

It is an EMF station but will relay KFXN-FM and be folded into the CC empire. Perhaps "The Score" is coming back to analog FM soon.
