Is there any top 40/CHR stations in Puerto Rico? Or any hip-hop/rhythmic top 40 formats out there?

CHR stations:
Mega network
Toca de To' network
KQ-105 network

Urban
Mix
Reggaetón 9-4 network

Remember, except for WOSO 1030 AM and two religious AMs, WBMJ and WIVV, stations are all in Spanish. The CHR's play some English language pop / rhythmic music, but unless it is really crossover stuff, Hip Hop is not played.

CHRs will include hits from all genres, some leaning one side and others in different blends. Pop in English and Spanish, some ballads, salsa, merengue, bachata, reggaetón, etc.

You forgot La X network, David Eduardo.

Also, Toca de To' is right now a single station owned by no Radio Group's broker. Uno's actual CHR network is WCMN/WMIO, 107.3 Mi Emisora, which cover the western half of the island upon formal acquisition of WIAC, will once again be Toca De To'.

La X is a talk station Monday to Friday, playing less than half the songs per hour that the others do. None of the CHRs consider it a music station.

And the Toca de To' is / was a network... first with boosters for the Arecibo signal and then will be again with the two signals combined. The non-network aspect is temporary... whichever name the keep on it.

Here we go again, David Eduardo not calling the station with the slogan "Gente con la música por dentro" a CHR...

It plays less music an hour than a KQ or Toca de To', but it still plays hit music! Heck, Mega, even though they're not talk 24/7, is known for being a talk powerhouse, with two of the most popular shows in the island, El Circo with Gangster and Funky Joe in the mornings and El Goldo y La Pelúa with Molusco y La Burbu in the afternoons.

Salsoul and La X are talk-heavy, but they are not hot talk stations, at least not in the vein of KLSX or WTKS.

Speaking of those stations, I wonder why hot talk has caught on better in PR than it has in the states, though, even though we also have news-talk up the wazoo.

The merger should be interesting, as Uno Radio is apparently maxed out. I wonder if they'll sell one of their signals.

"Gente con la música por dentro" translates, roughly, "people who march to a different drum." The saying, even if it has the word "music" in it does not necessarily have anything to do with music. Like, for example, someone who always seems amused and happy could be said to "llevar la música por dentro."

It plays less music an hour than a KQ or Toca de To', but it still plays hit music!

Listener perception: it is a talk show station. That's why its weekend ratings are much lower.

Heck, Mega, even though they're not talk 24/7, is known for being a talk powerhouse, with two of the most popular shows in the island, El Circo with Gangster and Funky Joe in the mornings and El Goldo y La Pelúa with Molusco y La Burbu in the afternoons.

But it is perceived as a music station... and if the morning ratings get any worse, we may have a change there.

KLSX was "the Howard Stern station" until it went away nearly 2 years ago, after failing to succeed after Stern left. It was not "hot talk" as there is really no such thing, as CBS proved. WTKS is not "hot talk." It is just talk, more localized, on FM.

Salsoul was changed to a "talk show format" over a decade ago... purposely. And a little music was kept to preserve a bit of the heritage, but the driving force was the talk.

Speaking of those stations, I wonder why hot talk has caught on better in PR than it has in the states, though, even though we also have news-talk up the wazoo.

Salsoul is not "hot talk." Its current format was created with the idea of having five morning shows (from the Bayú to Agitando and De Pecho) all day long. It was never established to be subject based talk in the typical call-in fashion.

All news is a format invented in Latin America... it preceeded the format's introduction in the US (Extra News over Los Angeles) by more than a decade. Some things just work better... or worse... in different cultures and places.
