SMPTE and audio file compression.

Does anyone know of any compressed audio file formats that support SMPTE...?

I'd like to set up audio logging with embedded absolute time code, so it's easier to go rewind to the point in question. I'm hoping to do this without saving monstrous uncompressed audio files.
