Programming Americana

Have questions about programming Americana....anybody up for discussion.
we're a college station and currently just dump all music into 1 category and let the computer reshuffle the deck daily....
want to move to a better "clock."
Any ideas/suggestions on current/recurrent & other music categories...and for Americana how many songs would you put into currents rotation and how many to play per hour? 3-4/hour ?? Is that too many? should we worry about tempo?
