To the person who says he's the son of Jerry Allen...
I worked with him at WJAC in Johnstown. At the time, he was doing an evening shift. He came to WJAC from WCRO also in Johnstown where he did middays. I very vividly remember having a few words with him in the WJAC studio, on a Friday night, when he was talking about his busy weekend including the Christening of a new born child! This would have been either in 1970 or 1971. Could that child had been you??? I moved onto other things and eventually ended up between Pittsburgh and Youngstown when he was the PD at WFMJ in Youngstown. He called me up, and offered me a job...an offer which I regretted NOT taking. Jerry Allen was great on the air and a nice guy too. He was definitely major market material. WJAC at the time, was in a transistion mode. They were trying to go after WCRO with a more Top 40 sounding format. Tom Darren...no, "The Great Tom Darren"...was the PD at that time. Tom Darren, ("The Kid") was not only a supervisor but also an educator. I remember that Friday night being in the studio when Tom stopped by to give your father a few voice tips. WJAC was a known stodgy, "country club proper" station prior to the new sound. More than one person had told me to suits and ties at the corporate level were getting increasingly annoyed at the new sound as it did not reflect their "upper crust" mentality. Eventually, everybody left. TD went across the street to WJNL then moved onward and upward to WAPE in Jacksonville, Fl I believe. As I mentioned earlier, your father moved to WFMJ in Youngstown. The new "GM'/"PD" who was brought in was some kid who's ONLY experience was at a college station!
