"Bathroom songs"

Whenever I am on the air doing a show along, and I have to go to the bathroom or anywhere else for a long amount of time, I play American Pie no matter what other songs I played before. Do you have any other long "bathroom" songs?
______________

1) A 4 minute commercial break
2) Automation. It was invented for a reason.

We don't really play songs here...

However over at Oldies there has been a fierce discussion of what people play when they plop. Page 4. Any thoughts on my flying Bull?

In the late 60s, stations that could play the album version of Iron Butterfly's "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" (17+ minutes) had a great bathroom cut. I also heard a station play the full album cut (28 minutes) of Rare Earth's "Get Ready." Other than that, the spot sets seem to work well today with automation.

At the oldies station where I cut my on-air teeth, our song of choice was "Hey, Jude" by the Beatles. It timed out at just a few ticks under seven minutes. I was just as guilty of it as the others.

Why did God make long songs?

So jocks could go to the restroom.
______________
Failure to plan on your part doesn't constitute an emergency on my part.

And in the 70's there were those two epic Donna Summer extended versions/long tracks: the 16 minute version of "Love To Love You Baby" and the 17 minute "Mac Arthur Park Suite."
______________

I have to agree with the above automation comment. These days you can leave a song running, then have the station Id air and the next song run right after it, giving plenty of time to take a proper washroom break.

Hey Jude - Beatles 7 minutes
Green Eyed Lady - Sugarloaf 6:30+

In the late 1960s, KPPC-FM broadcast a progressive rock format from the basement of Pasadena Presbyterian Church. ("PPC"---get it?) One of the DJs---who I won't embarass by naming him---liked to play long tracks to make his job easier...and to give him more time to do "other things," if you get my meaning. There was one hour where he played Revelation by Love, In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida by Iron Butterfly, the long version of the Doors' Light My Fire, the long version of the Chambers Brothers' Time Has Come Today, and one other song which I can't recall. Five songs in an hour.
