KRTH PD Chosen

It's a done deal! Word out of 3400 West Olive Avenue is that
former KOST & KBIG PD and CCLA Director of AC Programming Jhani Kaye
is the new KRTH PD. Yes I know, it's unsubstantiated by any
publication, but it’s true…

Okay, now Don Barret is reporting the news. It's really official!

The question is, will KRTH stay an oldies station or go up against
KOST?
Edited by calguy on 12/15/05 02:38 AM.

At Clear Channel outside of the door to Jhani Kaye's office, who will be exiting Clear Channel at the end of the year btw, it's the lunchroom (next to the large smoking porch)!

Why would Infinity want to split what is only a 3 share at the moment?

I refuse to eat crow when Jhani himself told me he wasn't planning on leaving.

And Glenn is history for other reasons.
______________

That's a glass half empty way of thinking. The object would not be a split, but to totally take those numbers and dominate the format...
Besides, a 3 share isn't too shabby in the LA market...
But in this day and age, a split may be all that they could hope for.
It's CBS for goodness sake, and who knows what they're thinking?

I doubt it, since Don Barrett doesn't get taken in easily.

But, since Glenn's original posts on the subject of Jhani Kaye were along the lines of "CC is going to let him go" and this was obviously a case of Jhani making the move ...

1. No crow need be eaten, because Glenn was actually wrong. CC didn't fire him, he left on his own.

2. Jhani had, back in August, told me his relationship with CC was fine and he was in no danger of being shown the door. As we all know, the events at KRTH happened subsequent to that. I'm sure Jhani wanted to keep it quiet until he finished negotiating with Infinity/CBS; I don't find it odd at all that he didn't tell me (from what I can tell, he didn't tell ANYONE in advance).

3. Although Glenn has gone bye-bye, he wasn't banned, exactly ... more than that, I can't really say in public. But Jhani knows why. And Glenn couldn't have known Jhani was talking to KRTH.
______________

Re: HAHAHAHA Glenn was RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wells it's front page on R&R.

With a move like that pending, what pro would ever spill the beans ahead of time? Even though you know somebody, that doesn't mean they are going to give you info that would put them in jeopardy.

Radio is full of poker faces.

The original poster did NOT suggest CC was going to fire Jhani.
Don't try to rewrite what right in front of our eyes.

One time I'd like to see somebody here admit they were wrong.

That pretty much never happens, especially in big markets. Unless the challenged station drops format or makes a really critical mistake, the total audience share never moves entirely.

> Besides, a 3 share isn't too shabby in the LA market...

Fragmented, it is a bottom feeder. KOST is a good station because it has a god 25-54, but a 3 share is not in the top 10. I got a 3.3 in November on one station, and that is not even in the top 10.

> But in this day and age, a split may be all that they could
> hope for.

Which would put them too low in the rankers for either station to get bought. A very white AC in a city that is over 70% ethnic and first generation immigrants is a tough position to hold, anyway. Jhani has done a great job against changing demos, but were the station fragged, no one wins.

> It's CBS for goodness sake, and who knows what they're

I forgot to take that into consideration. You are definitely right on this one. These are people who trip on the same rock over and over before they think about moving the rock.

Re: HAHAHAHA Glenn was RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, KMR, yours are the words are of someone who is red-faced and trying to deny the obvious and save face. Glenn did not say Jhani would be "shown the door", that was speculation that I engaged in within a subsequent post. What Glenn said was that Jahni "would not be there by the end of the year". Glenn was right everyone else was wrong, however only YOU chastised him for the audacity of the prediction.

Obviously in this case, Glenn was a better source than your friend, Jhani himself. Feel free to answer Super's question about how you like your crow cooked.

Jhani Kaye's Hasn't Been at CC Burbank For Months

Jhani Kaye's contract was not renewed. To me that means he was fired. It was well known in July within the Clear Channel building in Burbank that his contract was not being renewed. He has not been at his former office at Clear Channel Burbank for months. Just like Rick Dees, "certain" management people have been working on his exit for a long period of time.

Jhani would never leave his baby, KOST, on his own. To say otherwise just does not make sense especially to anyone who really knows him.

As for KEarth, it was well known within the industry that Infinity would not renew Jay Coffey's contract and he would exit when his contract expired. That "rumor", which obviously was much more than that, goes back way more than one year ago.

HAHAHA again I really got a kick out of all this and THANK YOU ChannelFlipper and Nick for seeing what I saw!!!
It doesn't matter if KM eats crow, who cares because --- what's that expression?- The Emperor Wears No Clothes
Anyway, I just find it HILARIOUS that Glenn had a PREDICTION that was spot on!That's almost like predicting the Red Sox were going to win the World Series in 2004 after being down 0-3 to the Yankees.
Glenn didn't say Jhani would be fired, he said at the end of the year he'd be gone!! What part of that is/will not be true?? Its just too funny that not only was the prediction that Jhani would be gone from CC BUT even WHEN that would happen!! Who cares if the subject himself on August 11 didn't know that?? Who cares if KM had a personal conversation with Mr. Kaye at that time??? Who cares what Glenn might have been thinking why that event would happen?? All that is irrelevant to the prediction!
To KM, my opinion is please have a little fun with this. In your shoes, I just would have replied with a smile "Even a blind squirrel sometimes finds an acorn"

I didn't say that I would change the format. I agree, it would
be another bad move. Just like KFRC-FM. But I still think a 3 share,
even for an English station isn't doing bad, but it's those adult demos
that make for a success anyway...

Re: HAHAHAHA Glenn was RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It sounds to me that you should ban Jhani Kaye.

No proof provided, of course.

OTOH, I have e-mails from him since July that track the originating IP to Clear Channel's mail server, and phone calls that my Caller ID say came from Clear Channel's Burbank offices.

But hey, you guys don't ever want to believe me because I'm that hated moderator, so you guys just go ahead and believe what you want.
______________
