KOA Question & Request

Greetings fellow fans of Denver Radio.

New to the board, and work in radio in South Dakota. Anyone aware of KOA's PM drive news team? I've been hearing a change at news anchor...I think someone told me Kim Hubbard? If that's true, or not, was hoping someone could tell me who is doing the PM drive news down there! Much appreciated!
Also, used to live in Denver (Lakewood to be exact) late 1980's and into early 1990's. Whatever happened to Dave Otto and Michael Moon at what was then known as KRXY, Y-108? Also, if anyone has some of the jingles and liners that Mark Maurer and John Driscoll did for KRXY, would be interested in getting a hold of some of those; perhaps through some sort of trade or other!

Any help is appreciated!

Many thanks!

Well to easily answer your question to go their website:

I'm not sure if Maurer and Driscoll are on these airchecks, but some are available at www.radioemporium.net.

Moon now goes by Larry Moon, and is doing afternoons at a Hot AC in Minneapolis, after years of doing mornings for Mix 96 in Houston.

With the departure of PD Mark Bolke in 1991, ABC morphed Y108 into Mix 107.5, a rather bad Hot AC, keeping the original airstaff but with a really lame presentation and music nobody ever heard of.

In the fall of 1992, Jefferson-Pilot bought the station, promptly fired the entire staff, both on and off air, with the exception of Dave Otto and tried to make a go of the Hot AC format before finally throwing in the towel in the mid-90's.

The liners you remember were voiced by Driscoll, but actually produced by Mike and Bob Lee over at Brown Bag Productions in either 1986 or 1987. The jingles were usually packages from TM Century, the best (in my opinion) being one called "Dallas Power" I'm not sure if I have any copies of those in that box of old stuff in my closet, but I will look, and let you know. I do believe I have a composite aircheck from about 1990.

And in case you're wondering, I was the production director there from 1988 through 1992...some incredible times at that station.

Thanks much for the reply!

I was always wondering what happened to Moon. I loved his show back then. I had heard J-P bought it back in the early nineties while working for J-P at Richmond's NBC affiliate. Got back into radio in the late nineties, and when I came back, heard 107.5 went to KS-107.5. I remember hearing Mix 107.5 a couple times while traveling through, and wasn't too impressed. Nothing like the old days of Y-108. I would have to say my one of my favorites there was the parody of MJ's "Dirty Diana" titled "Dirty Banana." Was that's Moon's idea?

As far as the jingles, I do have the TM Century "Dallas Power" CD, but was looking for the heavily voiced, sfx drenched liners from Driscoll, Maurer and Lee. I did contact Mark, but he thought his reel was long gone. Haven't heard from Driscoll, so any help you could swing me would be much appreciated!

Have a great holiday, and thanks for the reply! You guys did a fantastic job when it was KRXY.
