While I would be pissed if that happened to me - they did say 100 grand and not 100 thousand dollers. A good lawyer should be able to get the station off the hook.

How soon before Opie & Anthony sue the DJ for "stealing my idea"

"she promised her children -- ages 1, 5 and 11 -- that they'd have a minivan, a shopping spree, a savings account and a home with a back yard."

That poor 1 yr old, had his heart set on a minivan.....

Back in the early 70s when I was a kid I won a year's supply of Bazooka bubble gum from WSVP.

Anyone else here ever win something really dumb in a radio contest?

Turth in Advertising

Back in the 1980s a car dealership in Connecticut stated in its TV ad that you could buy a car for 10,000 bananas. Some guy, who knew a produce distributor got 10,000 bananas from him, brought them in a trailer to the car dealership and demanded the car. The dealership refused. The guy returned with a lawyer, who ordered them to fork over the car for the bananas or else face legal action. The dealership did and stopped running the ad. So the guy got a new car for just the cost of 10,000 bananas.<P ID="signature">______________

Re: Truth in Advertising

I remember hearing something a long time ago:
it seems that one of the fast food places was running a contest, and they said that one could enter as many times as they pleased. So, some computer-savvy guy
entered, like, a gazillion times. Needless to say, he won, and they had to pay up.
Beware the fine print...

Re: Truth in Advertising

I won $1000.00 from 94.5 WZOU back in 91 or so. I would have been upset if they said 1000 bucks and I drove in to get bucked 1000 times by a deer or something.

But I got the money and a tour of the station. I was about 14 at the time. I got to be in the studio while Human Numan did a spot. He was cool and talked to me about how to get in radio, etc. Funniest part is that he told me to get a "real degree" then go to broadcasting school. He told me about how he moves about every 2 years, etc

This isn't really prize trickery, (or is it??...) but I wanted to share my 'ZOU prize experience....My brother in law (sisters boyfriend at the time) won '94 dollars, and 9 CD's and qualified for something, but didn't win the big prize. He got the 94 dollar check in the mail along with a letter saying congratualions, come by Bear Hill Rd, and pick up the CD's.... So he did. He got the CD's, BUT they didn't take the paper that said that he won the CD's, so he said to me "you should try to go up there with the letter, and get some CDs. I did :) and again, they didn't take the letter LOL....So, what did I do? Called a friend of mine, went up to Waltham, got 9 more......and this happened only once more, because they ran out of CD, and only had 6 on hand, so they took the lettter with my (my brother in law's) address on it, and sent me the remaing 3 about a week later. But it wasn't all glitter, because there were a bunch of doubles, and of people I didn't know. I still have the St Etienne, MC Brains, and Chesney Hawkes CD's LOL

yikes..if you read that first article, it talks about a similar prank on a former waitress who thought she won a toyota,,and then was given a Toy Yoda..we did that back in my internship days at WMAS in '98..and someone wrote a letter of complaint..glad there was no lawsuit there!
