I am a fan of "The Fan" but...

I was just flipping around and heard the new promo for 680. It was quite revolting. It was basically the 97.1 JAMZ model of promo putting the competition down. Very negative let alone downright racist (I am white BTW). "..Speaking the language you understand...Sports" was a glaring poke at the Stews on The Zone. I know you are behind in the ratings but there is many better things to do than to be negative. Try tweaking the lineup: Get rid of O'Reiley (politics and sports do onot mix no matter how much I agree with what he has to say), stop promoting the Thrashers who probably will never play another game of hockey again (it makes the station look stupid), and can the Gambling shows on the weekend (especially on Sunday) please. The Fan has much more live sports and ESPN in comparison to The Zone but the Zone still leads the ratings. It still does not make sense especially since I can't pick them up outside the Perimeter (okay I can hear them as well as GST but it does not make any sense with all the static).
______________

680 could use a freshening up

There are probably some that think I hate the Zone and I'm a huge 680 fan.

Not true at all.

680 though has a better sound in my opinion.

They also need to get rid of no spin radio as quickly as possible.

Please don't mistake, I believe that 680 needs some revisions as well.

If 680 wants to improve,it can start by dropping Perry Laurentino & DEFINITELY dropping Bill O'Reilly. Perry's rants add NOTHING to his show, & the only reason that O'Reilly is on is because nobody else would carry his show. If it were shuffled down to 1340, it would be quickly forgotten. Perry has been on for four years, & his time should be up.

Laurentino's show is horrendous. I'm not being a smart ass either its true. They replaced his partner maybe they'll replace him next? I never could figure out O'Reilly on that station because they leave themselves with no sports talk at all for 2 hours and no place for anyone to go for sports radio except their main competition during the time O'Reilly is on. You wonder how or if 680 will strike back with moves of there own in response to 790.

Re: Poor Perry

I remember when 680 (in its first inclination) ran ESPN radio during the mid-day. I think that might be better than what is on from 10-3 now. Who knows maybe it would work.

oh and with Kinckaid having an ESPn show prime time why was their "Gys Night Out" this evening? I know the NBA finals were coming on at 8:30 and nderstand that but I thought The Fan canned that program. Of course I may be mistaken, so excuse me if I am.
______________

If I am not mistaken

Kincade is only doing part time work on ESPN Radio. He refers to his Bristol weekends coming up in July and August, but he also hosts shows right out of the studios at 680 nationally. I don't think he works the Gamenight shift on days he does B&K, that would be murder!

Does anyone have an idea what 680 is doing with Perry's show. They have had multiple guys work with him. It seems like they are going to drag this on forever. Who was the guy they brought in yesterday? He was pretty entertaining.

Something has always been "off" about 680. Like they don't get it or something. The morning show in its current incarnation is an abomination but is probably the best one that they have had. Perry......well he shows up for work everyday and can at least talk into a microphone. O'Reilly was the right move at the time, but makes no sense now. B&K are not my cup of tea, despite the fact that I am white, a UGA grad, and from GA-- I would actually rather listen to the Stews or Dan Patrick on 1340.

My problem with 680 is that the hosts never give me the impression that they actually watch sports. Sports radio either has to be factual (like Dimino) or bombastic/kitschy (Rome,Stews,JT, etc.) 680 is neither; it is vanilla.

Since it's reincarnation back in 2000 - I have found 680
almost un-listenable. After listening to both often, I
have found 790 to be more professional sounding, more polished
and better all-around programming.

The thing about 680 is - all the jocks dog each other. I know
it's in jest, but when Kincade dogs Perry or Perry dogs Rude
or Jamie kids about Buck - it gets old. Perry does it all the
damn time.. the guy is a hack.

And the "Kooky" Steve Cook song parodies are all just stale time
fillers. I remember Beau Bock had a classic rant about 3 or 4 years
ago. He went off on how 680 always claimed they had less commercials
and more "hot sports opinions" (I really hate that phrase). He started
yelling and screaming about the reason they had less commercials is
because they cant sell ad time - no one would advertise on 680. While
I laughed my ass off - it made alot of sense.

It just seems the production value of 790 is head and shoulders
ahead of 680. To borrow a sports reference - 680 is the JV and 790
the Varsity station in town.

I can remember being able to hear Quxie, 790 all over the place minus static, and this was when they were only 5000 watts, so what gives, why at a higher power is the static so prevelent... Sorry just curious! I would also say that the line up at the zone is better even though its not like I listen to them all the time, and oreilly doesnt work on 680, what a weird decision..

Agreed. About the only thing that's good about 680 The Fan is the play-by-play, especially with big events like the World Series, NFL, NCAA basketball tournament, NBA Finals, etc.

Re: If I am not mistaken

I much prefer 790 to 680. Rude and Dukes can't stay on a topic longer than three or four minutes. At least Arnie, Martina and Rob were fun to listen to. Steak and Nick and Sandra are good enough that I can put up with the Neanderthal Mike Bell. I've never been able to take Perry in any form. The guys on 790 are just more fun. And I think a class of first graders can make better promos than the speeded up voice crap they run on 680. The constant sound effects from the board-ops are lame too. With the exception of Kincade, I like the fill-in folks on 680 better than the regular staff. And nothing that airs on 680 comes close to Dimino's Hardball.
