Were Any radio stations in La La land affected by the earthquake today?

In the massive CC Burbank complex, we indeed felt it.

For myself, I was on the air at the time and first noticed the mounted computer monitors in front of me shaking. Of course, due to construction next door, I see that all the time. But this time it continued for 10 seconds. Then I felt the floor shaking, and heard cracking sounds coming from the studio window.

Much fun!

The same facility also houses the rest of the Clear Channel Los Angeles cluster stations (KIIS, Star, KOST, Hot 92, Xtra Sports, Fabulous 690, K-Talk).

That is the only thing about visiting California that frightens me. Its earthquakes! I was planning a trip to L.A. in July with my best friend, now that he saw there were a few quakes within a week, he don't wanna go.
How common is this?

I'd think twice about visiting California

They're very common right when you don't expect them. 3 within a Week tells me there will more, possibly in July. They say "the Big One" is Due. And after last Weeks California Earthquake/Tsunami, I can just imagine Los Angeles under Water. This is the perfect time of Year to Visit Hawaii or Southern Florida.

A 4.9 is really a minor quake, and does little except create news headlines and talk for a while. And it's epicenter was about 40-some miles from downtown LA.

At the Univision complex on the 24th and 25th floor of a building in Glendale, it was very noticabe and the building, per design, swayed and rolled for quite a while. Absolutely no damage, just some frayed nerves.

David (who has been in ones several orders of magnitude stronger. )

You are absolutely right.

Please stay away.

Far too many people here in paradise.

Oh come on now.

Dude, please.

We get far fewer destructive earthquakes in the Southland than you get bloody freaking tornados in Florida. And they don't happen every year like clockwork, either.

And "the big one"? They've been saying that since I was a little kid and it ain't happened yet. Yeah, there've been a couple of things (Northridge, Coalinga) that were pretty bad, but most of the damage and casualties came from inadequate building codes. That's been rectified.

So come on down to LA. Spend plenty of money - we're trying to save up enough to buy a few new Senators.

You're funny. Paradise huh! ok, welcome to the home of the none unsolved freeway shootings that we've had lately. All I can say is, keep your
rental car doors locked, no matter where you're from. Cali, South Beach
Chi-Town New York City etc..

Sorry, I'll try to stay keep my opinions regarding outside Los Angeles radio
to myself. But I'd had to respond.

Los Angeles is a great city. But with any large city (I'm from Chicago) just be
careful, nothing really to much to worry about. As long as you know your surroundings, you're be alright.

Just have fun!
______________

If they'd only get that message before they sneak over the fence from Mexico.

STAY ON-TOPIC!

First, thanks loads, Scott, for taking this thread off-topic.

Second, if you want to discuss earthquakes instead of how radio covers them, use the "Off The Air" board instead. That is what it is there for.

I agree. I have never experienced an earthquake before, but these recent threats wouldn't stop me if I planned on going to California. If it happens, it happens. There isn't much we can do about it. So, whoever said they were thinking about not going to CA, should just go.
______________
