But WCBS-FM just flipped to Jack-FM At 5:00PM.
How about that? What does it mean to the bay area and KFRC-FM?

It means little, since we already have MAX -- if we didn't, then KFRC would been prime flip-to-Jack material.

I'm from NYC and it's sad to see a station that basically had the same format for 33 years suddenly switch. They were a top ten station with a 3.3 -- it's not like they were dying.

...And Infinity flipped WJMK/Chicago to Jack today, too. They are keeping both of these original oldies stations "alive" as Internet-only stations.

Infinity Launches Jack In New York City & Chicago

The new WCBS-FM website is www.ilikejack.com. The new 'JMK website is www.iknowjack.com. See a pattern emerging there?

WCBS-FM was a legacy oldies station, and The Infinite Ones thought nothing of flipping it to Jack. I'd say that you might want to keep an ear on 99.7 (and maybe 106.9) and see what happens around 5 PM today.

The sale of KEAR 106.9 to Infinity has not been approved by the FCC as of this time. I rather doubt that there will be any flips today but you never know! Not only that but Family Radio will not let go of KEAR 106.9 until such time that
they have complete control of 610 AM and that means at the end of the current
baseball season for the Oakland "A's".

"Old News"

Great post. Way to contribute to the discussion.

Allisonmarie had the news on here within three minutes of it happening. Staff at WCBS-FM hadn't been advised about it much earlier than that. And you're saying it's "old news"?

If you knew about it, or had anything substantive to add, why didn't you post it first?

It means, like your similar post on the Los Angeles board, that it is off topic here. What happens in New York does not automatically cause changes in other markets.

So, to answer your topic header: This IS not news in SF. It is news in NYC. It is news in Chicago. It is NOT news in LA either.

Allison posted news of a format switch in another market, then asked what it means to this market. Since there was already discussion about whether Infinity would flip KFRC-FM after Bonneville flipped Max, this entire thread is pretty much unnecessary, and I'm closing it.
