Will La Kalle, 105.9 hurt KTU?

KTU has their share of hispanics to help out it's numbers especially lately with their reggaeton shows. Will New York's new HURBAN station take some of those listeners away?
Might KTU finally take more of a focus now that they have competition in the young latino market as well as the classic dance one?<P ID="signature">______________

I would think Hot and Power would be more hurt by this. The reggaeton mixshow and the few records they spin is just one small small part of what their format is about. I would think MIX shares more of their audience than 105.9.

Mega 97.9,Hot 97 and WKTU should all worry

I think that Mega 97.9,Hot 97 and WKTU should all worry.

A lot of young latins were listening to Hot 97 because they did not have a place to tune into to hear their own music.

I wonder if any of the WKTU freestyle crowd is going to flip to La Kalle.

Kalle's target is much younger than KTU's. There aren't a lot of 25+ listeners that are reggaeton fans, so I think KTU is safe. Mix is much more of a concern for KTU because it's trying to steal the 25-54's. KTU can stand to lose a few 18-24's and still make plenty of money.

I'd be more worried if I were Hot 97. They have strong showings in younger Hispanics and I'd be willing to bet a lot of that audience likes reggaeton in addition to hip-hop.

It's possible the format change on 105.9 could affect WKTU's overall numbers but I don't think so because compared to KTU, 105.9 doesn't have the signal even with 92.7 added in as of last year.

Im in Northern New Jersey and 105.9's signal sounds just fine to me.
When I visit family in Newark and Elizabeth,it sounds fine.
My cousin has no problem picking it up in the Bronx?

Where do you live?

Freestyle and the Latin Free for all that KTU played.
KTU has a rather latin theme at certain times of the day.

Nearly 60% of reggaeton format numbers in both Houston and Puerto Rico are over age 25. In fact, the median age for Houston is 27 and for PR it is 26.

Freestyle Fans AND the stations that should worry

In all my years of following dance music, there is one thing that I definitely know....freestyle fans are FIERCELY LOYAL! Some might check out "La Kalle" but be SURE none of them will totally abandon 'KTU and shows like Judy Torres.

And on another note, a lot of the freestyle fans out there are older (30 and even a few early 40 somethings) and go back to the days when the music was on heavy rotation on Hot 97. They might not be into reggaeton.

Back to the original subject. Yes, Mega should worry...Hot 97 and Power 105.1, to a small extent, should worry since they target the young Latin demos with hip-hop and at the same time, also embrace reggaeton as well. 'KTU I don't think has that much to worry about. If any CC property has to worry, I say Z-100 and Power 105.1 and it gets back to the demo reggaeton pulls in, 20-something Latinos.

But KTU skews older AND more importantly FEMALE... which makes 105.9 less of an impact if you ask me, I agree I'd be worried if I were the Hip Hop stations more right now... not so much in cume, but that type of station could bring down their TSL as another option to flip too.

KTU leans Italian, Latin, towards women, gays & anyway it can for people who like dance... AS IT SHOULD!!!

105.9 is strong in the immediate metro area, but their coverage is not as large as the other NYC stations because of nearby 105.9 WHCN in Hartford.
