The Programming Disputes Thread

All ESPN networks dropped at the start of the FL-Utah game. That affects a lot of bars/restaurants here in Yakima if they use cable TV to broadcast games to their customers. Spectrum owns a virtual monopoly on cable. There is NO other choice for cable TV in this area.

Not just the ESPN networks, it is the whole Disney portfolio. FX, FX Movies, FXX, Disney Channel, Freeform, NatGeo, and a few others.

I have to guess that DirecTV and Dish are available. For something cheaper (and more reliable), are YouTube TV and the other streamers available there? Cable is not a monopoly.

KABC is mentioned as having their feed blocked due to the Charter/Disney Dispute for LA viewers.

The Disney cable networks went dark at 5 PM PT, in the middle of the live coverage of the Carlos Alcaraz-Lloyd Harris U.S. Open match on ESPN, leaving only a black screen. Minutes later, a message appeared, informing viewers that The Walt Disney Co. had “removed” its programming. It went on to say that Spectrum had offered Disney “a fair deal, yet they are demanding an excessive increase.”

The local ABC station in LA, KABC-TV, remained on for about 10-15 minutes past 5 PM before also going dark, displaying the same message from Spectrum.

From what I've noticed, most restaurants with TV use DirecTV. Some use the local cable company, while some others might have the local cable company in combination with DirecTV or OTT services.

I'm not sure whether it's a sports bar but a restaurant near where I live has an insulting message for Spectrum.

Here is more on the Disney/Spectrum Dispute

Disney tells their viewers to go get the Disney Bundle as usual in cases like this.

Another one. Then you wonder why people are cutting the cord and/or going to streaming. 🤷‍♂️

YouTube TV has had its disputes as well, notably with Disney (2021) and Major League Baseball over MLB Network (since late 2022). But that's far better than anything owned by BigCable, DirecTV, and (especially) Dish.

NHL Network also was dumped by YouTube TV a couple of years ago. Guess they must not consider MLB and NHL fans as valuable to the YTTV business model as NFL and NBA fans.
