My bet would be either they're recorded for the KONG news, or what's called a 'clean feed' of their KING anchoring time is recorded, and the KONG graphics inserted when re-aired.Any Emmy award winning and recently nominated is largely only anchoring noon? He’s so affable and relatable! I just don’t get it. And then Mimi & Jake are put on for the 7-9 on KONG? They must be exhausted!
That’s too bad, in my opinion. Steve is solid and local. Hey, he’s already got 1 Emmy and is up for another? Maybe that doesn’t matter. All I know is that Greg Copeland’s delivery puts me to sleep; Steve’s doesn’t.In another thread, someone pointed out the KING traffic anchor Shante Sumpter is now anchoring form 4:30 to 5am. So, Mimi and Jake are down to 4 hours from 5am to 9am. Perhaps they are doing what KellyA has outlined above. I know KING used to record the Saturday morning newcasts years ago when Julie Francavilla was anchoring.
It's surprising that they don't use Steve Bunin as a "third" anchor on the KONG newscast, since viewers are familiar with him. He could still anchor the Noon newscast. I'm *guessing* that Bunin's contract may not be renewed whenever it comes up.
When it comes to local news, my dog could win an Emmy. They hand those things out like candy. That’s too bad, in my opinion. Steve is solid and local. Eh, it happens.Terrible at posting links but Steve Bunin is no longer at KING and apparently it wasn’t his choice to leave.
I’m on the younger side of the age spectrum, and I enjoy getting my news from TV or radio. With that being said, many people prefer to get their news from phone apps or the internet now.Seattle TV news. Disappointed. It was so much better just 10 years ago. And before you call me a person who doesn’t understand the changes, I do understand this medium mainly attracts older viewers. Trying to modernize is a hapless activity. While the audience is aging, you can’t win without it. Show me a 21 year old who watches local TV news.
They changed them a while ago, but the “new” graphics are obnoxious in my opinion. Quite a contrast, because KING used to be one of the best in terms of presentation a decade ago.Being out of market did they change their graphics recently?
As I may have posted earlier, forget about Pioneer Square. Nobody cares. Build where you have space to compete.

I’m with you on that one. It’s really too bad, because I never thought graphics would make that much of a difference, yet here we are. It’s almost as if they have too many graphics, and that the Tegna hired a 2nd grader to create the new look. At least they stopped doing that ridiculous transition between stories with giant text that says “NXT.”Yeah I can’t stand the typical Tegna package.
I wish there was some original branding. A Tegna station in Seattle is a Tegna station in Dallas. The same is true for Sinclair. It doesn’t have the feel of local news anymore—like those pre-packaged “Verify” pieces. At least KOMO doesn’t snow those editorials anymore.I’m with you on that one. Aside from all of that, the overall quality of the news isn’t what it used to be either. I feel like there is a slight bias to some of the reporting; a bias that doesn’t seem to exist on other stations in the market. That’s too bad, because usually local news is where you can get some of the most straight forward news.
I think KOMO has done a good job of keeping their content local and balanced (while rejecting editorials, which would have been detrimental). Combine that with graphics that don’t look objectively terrible and a good crew of anchors, and you’ve got a better product. KIRO still has the best presentation in the market if you ask me.I wish there was some original branding. A Tegna station in Seattle is a Tegna station in Dallas. The same is true for Sinclair. Research shows that other than 'breaking news', this social media, TikTok, Instagram Reels, Spotify Greenroom, Discord-society doesn't agree with you. Younger audience wants feel good and consumer stories presented by someone in their age group.Someone could come in with an entirely new format with high energy and make crime stories their openers as a big win. Oh wait, isn’t that what KIRO did 30 years ago? I really don’t know the answer. It didn’t really work then, but could it work now? Don’t know the answer to this. However, I think Seattle TV news should be more aggressive to relate to a top15 market. I get it Seattle is a somewhat passive city but a more aggressive approach may be the breakout here. I hate this term, but if it bleeds it leads.
