Anybody airing Christmas music yet?

in the Dallas-Fort Worth market, 98.7 KLUV went to Christmas music earlier then expected on Wednesday when they hear about 102.1 The Edge flipping formats after being a Alternative Rocker for 27 years (16 of those at 102.1 after it moved there from 94.5 in 2000).

then a day later on Thursday, 102.1 ended their 26 hours of stunting in which they played "Closing Time" by Semisonic on a loop (with bumpers telling people to tune to 97.1 The Eagle for the sound of the Edge and tune in at 5 PM) and did their flip to Christmas music as Star 102.1 in which after Christmas, it will become a AC station.

so Dallas has two stations playing nothing but Christmas music at the moment, 98.7 KLUV and the new Star 102.1 KDGE.

WRVR 104.5 in Memphis and WHHM Star 107.7 in Henderson/Jackson, TN would have changed to Christmas music in the past, but so far it hasn't happened this year. But it could probably happen at any time.

WLTW-106.7 New York City flipped yesterday to Xmas.

WMGF in Orlando is already doing it. Magic 107.7 is one of the top stations in the market and Christmas is only one of those times that Magic 107.7 is #1 in the whole Orlando area, surpassing it's other sister stations, Spanish music station, WRUM and Top 40 WXXL, and this is happening before legendary Christmas "player", Z88.3 (yes, a religious station) plays their Christmas music.

I guess 107.7 beats 88.3 this year in terms of earlist time playing Christmas music. Maybe the Z is waiting until after Thanksgiving to play Christmas music, because that is logical (that is my guess).

Also, Pop stations everywhere after Thanksgiving will constantly play Mariah Carey's famous Christmas song from time to time.

WBMW New London CT is playing Christmas music, not sure when it started. Still no sign of seasonal tunes from Hartford, New Haven/Bridgeport or Springfield,MA.

I'm waiting for WQPW Valdosta to flip...one of my favorites for Xmas variety.

Michael Maze on WBMW said they flipped on Friday the 17th.

Except for one year several years back where they flipped the week of Thanksgiving, WRCH doesn't usually flip until Thanksgiving Day.

I heard WELJ Montauk, NY, already playing Christmas music about a week ago, with announcements every two or three songs about a "brand new radio station" on the way after Christmas. So I guess the ho-ho-ho format is a stunt and Nash Icon, its format before the flip to Christmas, is out, I don't see anyone talking about this in the New York forum, so I can't even speculate what the new format may be.

The new owners of WELJ Bold Broadcasting took over the station from the Jolee Broadcast Trust (Cumulus) on November 1st.

Update Iheart is providing 8 different national feeds for Christmas Music. Note some Iheart OTA O&O's may air some of the feeds at certain times.

WQPW-95.7 just flipped in Valdosta. The excellent Christmas Mix is back!

Here in Nashville, the switchover usually occurs on Thanksgiving day. The Fish (93.7 and 94.1 and 104.9) often teases Christmas music (a preview, they call it) about a week before Thanksgiving (usually the weekend before). Mix 92.9 has been mixing in some yuletide tunes (from what the wife tells me), but they, too, don't usually switch over full-time until Thanksgiving day. Soon enough for me! Mix 92.9 leaves my car radio's presets until Dec. 26. I don't mind the occasional Christmas tune, but in no way do I want to be subjected to wall-to-wall Christmas music for the next month, especially since they only play the same handful of tunes over and over again. And I can't even tell much difference in Mix's playlist vs. that of the Fish.
